Five thoughts about the Heat vs Cavaliers

Nunn Better

  • Week by week, rookie guard Kendrick Nunn continues to make a strong case for Rookie of the Year. Last night’s performance was just the latest in this case. Nunn led the Heat with 23 points on 62% shooting. As soon as he cashed in a 3 pointer to get himself on the board, you couldn’t help but feel he would have a good game. Nunn had periods where he struggled to replicate the same success, he had in the first, but he was able to score when it counted.

Bam! The Heat is on!

  • Adebayo has emerged as one of the leaders on the Miami Heat. As a rookie, Bam had drive and passion which helped him grabbed a starting spot and the approval of Spoelstra and Pat Riley, going into this year. Now Adebayo has taken his game to another level posting double-double performances, and effort on the defensive end. This was something the Heat desperately needed in the past. Last night, Adebayo ended the game with a monster 16 points and 15 rebounds along with five assists.

Everybody Eats

  • Heat finished the contest with a whopping 31 assists compared to Cleveland’s 18 assists. Nunn led the team with eight assists while Goran Dragic chipped in seven from the bench. This isn’t even the impressive feat. Everyone, outside of Kelly Olynyk and Chris Silva, has registered multiple assists in this dominant win over the Cavs. A team that is willing to share is going to go far no matter the competition.

Under the Radar

  • Following last night’s win, Miami moves up to second in the conference, right behind the Boston Celtics. Outside of the local media, the Heat’s success is noticed on the mainstream stage but that’s how it should be. Miami has been out of most of the mainstream spotlight following the fallout of the “Big 3” but now the Heat is quietly preparing. Preparing to prove the doubters wrong, the critics and to upset the Eastern Juggernauts like the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors.

Final Thoughts

  • Heat continues to gain momentum as we roll through the season and I am proud of how this team is playing. In my opinion, Miami is still due for a statement win. A win over any of the top teams like the Clippers, Lakers, Celtics, etc. will cement this team as a legit contender, It’s a long NBA season and were are only 11 games in but I believe Heat fans will be in store for a special season.

Miami Heat vs Cleveland Cavaliers Preview

The Miami Heat, leaders of the Southeast Division, (7-3 Overall, 4-0 Conference) travel to Ohio to face the Cleveland Cavaliers (4-6 Overall, 4-5 Conference) their first conference matchup of the season.

The Heat head into tonight’s matchup after following a 117-108 win over the Detroit Pistons. Jimmy Butler and Rookie Kendrick Nunn both dropped 20 points in the win. Butler currently leads the team with 19.4 points per game.

The Cavs comes home after a heartbreaking 98-97 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Kevin Love put up 20 points in the loss. Colin Sexton currently leads the team with 18.7 points per game.

The Heat, however, is being compromised by the injury bug with question mark on key players. According to ESPN, Derrick Jones, KZ Okpala, Justise Winslow are all listed as out for tonight’s matchup. Tyler Herro and Goran Dragic are currently listed as Day-to-Day while Dion Waiters is serving his first game of this 10 game suspension from the team following is

The Cavs have listed John Henson, Ante Zizic and Dylan Windler as out, while Kevin Porter Junior Jr. and Matthew Dellavedova are listed as Day-to-Day.

Expect to see point guard duties to be shift possibly to Kendrick Nunn or Jimmy Butler if Dragic isn’t cleared by tip-off. Although Miami is favored, they have struggled on the road so far with a (3-3) record. Also, Kevin Love (18.5 ppg) and Colin Sexton will be key scoring options along with Tristan Thompson (16.5 ppg).

If you’re looking to see a high scoring game, then you’re in luck. Both teams average at least 100 points defensively, so defense is out of the question.

I do anticipate Miami do get stops when it counts, it just won’t be the entire game given the lack of depth due to injuries. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
